The Transplant Foundation for Renewed Lives was established in 1991 and
operates as a public, not-for-profit organization since 1998.
Decisions are made by an Advisory Board of 5 members. The actual tasks are
carried out by the President of the Advisory Board aided by temporary and
permanent volunteers.
The
mission of the Foundation can be summarized as follows:
• In Hungary, no one should die due to a lack of organs.
• People who have received an organ transplant should get appropriately
rehabilitation so they can lead a satisfying life after going through a
successful surgery.
To meet our goals, we communicate educational information both to the general
public to make the concept of organ transplants and its life-saving importance
better known, as well as to the professional community to draw attention
to the importance of reporting donors.
Rehabilitation is the other significant task of our Foundation; since 2004,
we have concentrated on the physical and mental rehabilitation as well as
social reintegration of the children who received organ (heart, lung, liver,
kidney, pancreas) transplants, or waiting for an organ transplant. This
task is impossible without the rehabilitation of the whole family, including
the parents and healthy siblings.
The
target groups of the Foundation are the following:
• People waiting for organ transplants
• People who have received an organ transplant
• General public
Activities of the Foundation:
• Focus on prevention and healthy living
• Rehabilitation, reintegration
• Promoting equal opportunities for disadvantaged groups
• Education, information services
Programs
of the Foundation:
Rehabilitation
• Organizing and financing child camps and other child programs
We consider rehabilitation as an especially important activity; and we place
a special emphasis on programs for children who received an organ transplant
or waiting for an organ.
Besides the importance of children’s and parent’s rehabilitation, we can
easily demonstrate through the lives of these children that gravely ill,
terminal patients can become a healthy people living full lives if they
receive an organ transplant.
LOVE! FUN! KEEP GOING! – We organize our programs under these
slogans. Our kids’ journey to recovery is a difficult one including
dialysis, a series of surgeries, etc.; this is why they require lots
of loving care and patience. It’s a lot easier if they have
fun on the way – it is very true that smiles and laughter promote
healing. However, they must be aware that not giving up
is an essential ingredient in their recovery.
